The Problem

The QE 11 was undergoing a major refit including the installation of new marble bathrooms in parts of the ship. Cunard wanted to ensure that the new bathrooms were protected and maintained to a high standard and that existing bathrooms were restored, so that they could also be maintained to the same standard.

Our Approach

Given the crowded sailing schedule of the QE11, it was clear that that there would be little opportunity for Extensive to undertake the restoration and protection programme ourselves. We therefore proposed to Cunard that we should train their staff to carry out the restoration, protection and maintenance programme. This would allow the client staff to carry out the work as part of their normal duties during sailings. Cunard agreed to this proposal, so we went on board for one Atlantic crossing.

Having designed a comprehensive training programme, we then ran this for the Cunard staff responsible for maintaining the new bathrooms and for restoring and then maintaining, the previously installed bathrooms.

The Outcome

During the voyage we trained the Cunard staff through a series of demonstrations that we carried out and by supervising them as they gained familiarity with the products and processes we specified.

We also devised a maintenance schedule and product specification for routine cleaning and a series of guidance notes to enable the Cunard staff to deal with likely problems. We also made ourselves available to help deal with any unforeseen problems.

Subsequently, Extensive continued to supply maintenance products to Cunard.
