Royal Mail

The marble and granite flooring in the Royal Mail head office had been in service for some 15 years. Over time, the floor had become worn and damaged through constant use. Extensive was approached by Royal Mail to restore the floor to as near original condition as possible.

The marble in particular had been scratched and as a result had accumulated dirt. The usual problems associated with wear and tear had been compounded by the use of various sealers and maintenance products. These had been allowed to build up on the surface of the stone, and so contributed to its poor appearance.

Because of this build-up, we needed to strip the floor using strong solvent-based products. Once the old surface coatings had been removed, we discovered that the granite was in good condition, whilst the marble was severely worn.

We used a treatment known as crystallisation to clean, case harden and polish the marble, which we then vitrified to enhance the polished effect.

We then drew up a maintenance programme and supplied the Royal Mail’s own cleaning company with vitrification products to treat the floor on a regular basis. We also arranged off-site training with our partner company, ProSolve.

We dramatically improved the quality and appearance of this floor.

The training carried out improved the quality of the regular maintenance and we continue to supply maintenance products.
