Acid Sensitive Surfaces such as Limestone, Travertine, Marble and Terrazzo
Acid Sensitive Surfaces such as Limestone, Travertine, Marble and Terrazzo
These materials can suffer from two problems in this case.
The wine may cause a red stain. This can be removed with Wexa or, if this fails, Stain Away or Mildew Away (which is safe on stone and tiles and has a bleaching effect). Stain Away will remove any sealer that is in or on your stone.
You may also have an etch mark where the acid in the wine has dissolved the face of the stone. This is usually more apparent on finely honed or polished stones.
On polished limestone, marble or travertine you can use Renue to repair the etch marks.
With honed stone it may be possible to use very fine wet and dry sand paper - be very careful as YOU are responsible or the effect you acheive. Such marks in honed stone will tend to fade over time if the area is subject to foot traffis and wear.
Correctly sealing the stone will help minimise such damage and buy you time in the event of a spillage. Please see the relevant section at the start of this help system for more information on sealing your stone.
